2022 study week on macroeconomic, trade, investment and development policies

The Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND) together with the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship and Third World Network organized 2022 study week on macroeconomic, trade, investment and development policies from December 12 to 16, 2022.




OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY WEEK:

- Enhancing civil society advocacy on economic policies in the region by building capacities and raising awareness on the elected priority-issues.

- Working towards establishing a working group of civil society activists from various Arab countries cooperating with the Network on studying the different layers of developmental process in order to have a wider scope of the development solutions and priorities for the Arab societies, according to the expertise coming from different contexts.



The Study Week brought together international/regional participants and experts. During the 5 days intensive program, they learned structural and systemic development challenges and its impliclation on the regional level and they discussed alternative development paradigms.



Day 1 topics:

- Multilateralism challenges of the current global governance

- Trade agreements within EU-Arab partnership

- Governance and International Investment Agreements

- Private sector development and accountability

Trainers: Roberto Bissio, Chee Yoke Ling, Adib Nehmeh, Stefano Prato, Mohamed Said Al Saadi.



Day 2 topics:

- Multilateralism challenges of the current global governance

- Trade agreements within EU-Arab partnership

- Governance and International Investment Agreements

Day 3 topics:

- Tax justice in the Arab Region and Sustainable development

Day 4 topics:

- Multidimensional poverty index and redistribution policies

- Austerity Policies and alternatives

- Right to health in the political and economical context in the Arab Region

Trainers: Adib Nehmeh, Isabel Ortiz, Marie-Noelle AbiYaghi, Sawsan Abdulrahim.



Day 5 topics:

- Fundamentals of climate justice in the Arab region

- COP27 Outcomes

- Climate Financing
