Webinar: Arab Feminism in Times of War and Transformation: What Remains of Beijing?

Webinar: Arab Feminism in Times of War and Transformation: What Remains of Beijing?

The Arab region is undergoing profound political and economic transformations amid prolonged wars and conflicts, reshaping the lives of communities across several countries. In this context, women face renewed and compounded forms of structural violence, forced displacement, poverty, and the collapse of essential public services.

Against this backdrop, international frameworks—most notably the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action—appear increasingly unable to respond to these realities or reflect the priorities of women in the Arab region. This gap is further deepened by the dominance of liberal feminist approaches that emphasize individual “empowerment” while overlooking colonial legacies, neoliberal policies, and structural violence.

The Feminist Working Group at the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND) invites you to a webinar dedicated to discussing the Arab Feminist Network Roaa report entitled:
“A Feminist Agenda Beyond Colonial Structures: Critical Reflections After Beijing.”

The webinar aims to foster an in-depth discussion on the lived realities of women in the Arab region, critically examine the limitations of the dominant global feminist agenda, and explore pathways toward building a decolonial Arab feminist agenda grounded in the experiences of protracted conflicts—particularly in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, and Iraq—and oriented toward comprehensive social justice beyond tokenistic empowerment narratives.
