Regional Launching Event - Arab Voices for Progressive Financing for Development
Regional Launching Event
Arab Voices for Progressive Financing for Development
Location: Amman, Jordan
Date: 25–26 August 2025
Event Overview
The Arab region is facing unprecedented debt challenges that undermine economic and social rights, limit development, and deepen inequality. Public debt has soared to record levels, while debt servicing increasingly crowds out essential public spending on education, health, food security, and decent work.
Against this backdrop, the “Arab Voices for Progressive Financing for Development” project seeks to open dialogue and advocate for alternative financial and fiscal policies grounded in justice, participation, and transparency.
This three-day regional event in Amman will officially launch the project and bring together civil society organizations, researchers, and human rights defenders to:
- Present findings from national and regional reports on sovereign debt and taxation in the Arab region.
- Launch two training manuals on sovereign debt (from a rights and development perspective) and tax justice.
- Introduce a microsite providing accessible knowledge tools and advocacy resources.
- Build stronger alliances for fairer financial systems that prioritize human dignity and sustainable development.
Why this matters
The launch is not only about sharing research — it is about creating momentum for systemic change, amplifying civil society voices, and advancing a collective call to break the cycle of debt, austerity, and marginalization in the Arab region.
